A Little About Portland Roads...

Portland Roads is about 50km north of Lockhart River, which has a population of around 600. Its a fantastic base from which to explore the unique region of Cape York in Tropical North Queensland, Australia.

You can explore the rivers, creeks and islands around Portland Roads by boat and fish for coral trout, barramundi or mangrove jack. On a low tide collect black lipped oysters for entree.

Spend time bird watching in the National Park, the unspoiled seven kilometer Chili Beach and the Portland Roads area.

Lockhart River has a store, new hospital and sealed all weather airstrip serviced by regular passenger and freight services from several operators.

Lockhart River also has a weekly sea freight service from Cairns and for 10 months of the year during the prawn fishing season mother ships leave Cairns weekly and stop at Portland Roads with freezer, chiller and dry storage.

Australia Post services Portland Roads through the Cairns Mail Centre and Telecom has built a telephone exchange which provides phone and fax services.

You can fax your order to Woolworths or Coles in Cairns midweek and collect your stores on Sunday morning.

What else could you wish for!
